Laboratory of Natural Products Chemistry (Professor Kiyotake Suenaga) - Discovering New Substances from Marine Organisms for Medical Applications and the Elucidation of Life Phenomena

Many pharmaceuticals in wide use today are derived from or inspired by naturally occurring substances.

The Suenaga Laboratory at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University, is engaged in "natural products chemistry," the chemical study of these natural substances. In particular, the laboratory focuses on the study of "marine cyanobacteria," a type of photosynthetic bacteria and marine organism.
