Tanabe Laboratory - Aiming for Ultimate Energy Savings with Optical Microresonators

At the Tanabe Laboratory in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University, we are advancing the research and development of optical microresonators—containers that confine light—with the goal of achieving ultimate energy savings.

In conventional signal processing using electricity, the resistance in the wiring generates Joule heat when current flows, causing energy to escape. However, optical microresonators confine light and perform signal processing with it, eliminating energy loss and making it possible to realize ultimate energy savings.
