Hotta Laboratory - Creating Functional Materials with Soft Materials

Hotta Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University

Here at the Hotta Laboratory, we are researching the potential of soft materials.

As the name suggests, soft materials refer to materials that are soft.

Most soft materials use polymers, which are long molecules. By skillfully modifying and adjusting their molecular structure, the properties of these polymers can be varied widely, ranging from hard materials like plastics, to elastic and soft materials such as rubber and elastomers, and even to extremely soft gels with high water content. Some polymer composite materials are even harder than metals or ceramics.
