Keio University COI NEXT Kamakura Satellite Research Center Opening Commemoration and Kickoff Symposium: “Toward a Respectful and Creative Circular Society”

Keio University, together with Kamakura City and 22 participating organizations and companies, has envisioned a "digitally-driven, participatory society with ultra-resource circulation." The project has been selected as an incubation-type project for the Program on Open Innovation Platform for Industry-Academia Co-creation (COI-NEXT) by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

This center aims to create a new circular society in which everyone can participate with respect. To promote its realization in cooperation with the local community, we have now opened a satellite lab at a location a five-minute walk from Kamakura Station.

This kickoff symposium will introduce the vision of our center from three perspectives: "circulating in society," "returning to the earth," and "leaving for the future." We will discuss our current projects and look ahead to the future in about ten years, when the microbial decomposition of plastics is expected to become widespread in society.
