The Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care held the "Global Leader Training and International Exchange Program for Nursing Students" (course title: "International Nursing Practice I (Domestic)") from Monday, February 5 to Friday, February 9, 2024. This is a short-term study abroad acceptance program that has been running since 2017, planned and managed primarily by the faculty members in charge of the course under the leadership of Associate Professor Rika Fujiya. Initially, the participating universities were from four countries: Fudan University (China), Eulji University (South Korea), Suffolk University (UK), and Keio University (Japan). The University of Washington (USA) later joined, followed by the University of Illinois (USA), the University of Pittsburgh (USA), and the National University of Singapore. This time, students and faculty members from Fudan University, Eulji University, Suffolk University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the National University of Singapore participated. Including students and faculty from Keio, the total number of participants was approximately 50. On the first day, February 5, there was an unexpected heavy snow warning. It was a challenge, requiring us to move up parts of the schedule, but for the students from the National University of Singapore, it was their first time seeing snow, and they were very excited.
The program was packed with activities, including lectures by faculty from the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care (Photo 1), a visit to a facility for the elderly (Photo 2), a visit to the Shonan RoboCare Center, and a tour and ward experience at Keio University Hospital. While experiencing these activities, the students engaged in lively discussions about the current situation and challenges in modern health, medicine, and nursing, as well as global health and nursing issues and challenges. They are the future leaders who will shape the future of nursing. It was very powerful to see them seriously considering and discussing the health and well-being of people around the world.
