Keio University

A Change of Place | Motohiro Tsuchiya, Vice-President / Dean, Faculty of Policy Management

June 15, 2021

The room on the second floor of the Jukukan-kyoku (Keio Corporate Administration) building at Mita Campus, which I had visited from time to time when called, had a somewhat dim image in my mind.

However, when I entered the room early one morning, the rather strong June sunlight was streaming in, and I realized that it was surprisingly bright in the morning. The view from the window is almost completely filled with the leaves of a ginkgo tree, but it is an east-facing window.

This will be my last Okashira Nikki entry as Dean of the Faculty of Policy Management . My only regret is that I was unable to hand-deliver diplomas to any of the graduating students due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nevertheless, I have gradually begun to feel that this is for the best.

Thank you very much to everyone who has supported me. I spent a great deal of time in long discussions with Akira Wakita, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, and Fumitoshi Kato, Dean of the Graduate School of Media and Governance, as the three of us worked together. I believe that it was precisely because the three of us are so different that we were able to aim for a better direction. I am also very grateful to Administrative Director Toshiko Hirota and all the staff members.

To all the students, you may be facing difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic, but please do not be discouraged and continue to learn as much as you can. I will be watching over SFC from a new location, moving from the third floor of the Alpha Building to the second floor of the Jukukan-kyoku.
