Seven years, including my time in charge of general affairs, have truly flown by. Thank you all for your tremendous support. I am grateful to have been able to commute by bicycle from my home to the campus every day, up and down the hills, without any accidents.
I worked for five years in charge of general affairs under Administrative Director Takano, where I was responsible for projects such as the campus's 25th anniversary. Six years ago, Administrative Director Takano wrote in the "Okashira Nikki" (Administrative Director's Diary) that he wanted to "see the future horizon from the position of an Administrative Director," and he later wrote that he was able to find it while teaching the "Fundamentals of Policy Management" course. I had planned to write my first entry for this "Okashira Nikki" when I could see that future horizon from my position as Administrative Director. In April 2017, I attended a "Fundamentals of Policy Management" class in the Theta Building with Dean Kawazoe. On that day, I was so nervous that I just broke out in a cold sweat, and the class ended without me having a chance to calmly observe the students. I couldn't see anything. It took Mr. Takano five years, so it was unlikely that I, as a newcomer, would see it right away. Looking back, I realize how naive I was.
Since becoming the campus Administrative Director, I have often thought about Mr. Magofuku, the first Administrative Director of Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC). (Hiroshi Magofuku, after serving as the SFC Administrative Director and in other administrative roles at the Juku, became a professor in the Faculty of Policy Management before moving to Yokohama City University. He passed away in 2004.) I had the opportunity to work under Mr. Magofuku when he became the Director of the Human Resources Department at Jukukan-kyoku (Keio Corporate Administration) after his tenure as the Administrative Director of Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC). I remember that at the time, Mr. Magofuku did not think highly of me at all. Despite this, I didn't get discouraged and worked hard at my own pace, trying not to pay too much attention to what he said. The fact that I have now become the 10th Administrative Director of Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) makes me think that Mr. Magofuku must be either angry or exasperated in heaven. For this reason, I have tried to work hard every day, hoping to accomplish something during my tenure that I could report to him with confidence.
Just when I thought the 25th-anniversary ceremony of the campus's opening in 2015 had successfully concluded, the 30th anniversary is already approaching. I hope that you will solidify the foundations and strive to build a campus structure that continues to take on challenges, aiming for the next 50 and 100 years.
I hope that the campus will always retain its atmosphere as an experimental campus where people "think while running."
