As of October 1, I have been appointed the new head of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care. During my upcoming two-year term, it is my great hope that through this diary, I can deepen everyone's interest in and understanding of nursing and medical care, and perhaps even inspire you to become supporters of our faculty.
The Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care was established to produce graduates capable of providing the nursing care demanded by the world in the 21st century. The primary health challenge for people worldwide in this century is the realization of "health promotion," as advocated by the WHO. Health promotion is defined as the process of enabling people to increase control over and improve their own health.
This calls for people to take action to achieve higher levels of wellness when they are healthy, and when faced with illness or disability, to actively strive for their own recovery while receiving services from medical professionals.
The curriculum of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care is designed to realize the concept of health promotion. It aims to cultivate professionals who possess the fundamental ability to care for the sick and people with disabilities, the capacity to help healthy individuals achieve higher levels of health on their own, and the competence to contribute to public discourse on the formulation of health policy. After evaluating the results of its implementation over the past four years and making some revisions, we will be launching a new curriculum next academic year. Ensuring a smooth transition is my first major task.
As one of the faculties at SFC, I have observed how the Faculty of Policy Management and the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, like twin siblings with their own distinct fields, collaborate to generate various pioneering activities. This has led me to seriously consider how our Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, which operates in yet another distinct field, can collaborate with them. It is precisely because we are different that I believe we can cooperate to bring out each other's strengths. Determining how to advance this collaboration will be my second major task.
