Keio University

Thank you for your support. | Yoko Sato (Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care)

2007.09.27

My life as "Okashira" will come to an end at the end of September. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has read this humble diary. Some people would occasionally say things like, "That was interesting," which was a great encouragement to me.

When I ask myself what I have been able to accomplish for the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care and for Keio University over these past two years, I feel inadequate for not being able to point to any particular achievement. However, I would like to take pride in the fact that I have served with all my might and that my tenure has passed without any major issues.

Conversely, when I ask myself what I have gained over these two years, I can say that I have had a truly wonderful experience. I have had the opportunity to speak with many people in various settings, not only at SFC and Mita Campus. I believe my greatest happiness was having the chance to speak intimately with incredible individuals who made me truly understand that the greatest asset of the Juku is its "people," and to experience the atmosphere they create. These were also days when I deeply contemplated the meaning of the term "Keio Gijuku Shachu."

I also had more opportunities than ever to interact with students, who are, in a sense, "international students from the future," different from those so-called accomplished "people." It was the greatest happiness for me as an educator to have the chance to learn about student activities that are difficult to know about just from classes, and to be able to spend my days feeling proud of the students in my own faculty.

Furthermore, from the perspective of administration and management, collaboration with administrative departments, including the ITC and Media Center, is essential. I am also deeply grateful to the staff in these administrative departments who supported me in carrying out my duties with their solid work.

To be honest, I preferred the title "Okashira" to "Dean," so writing this diary was something I enjoyed. In my first "Okashira Diary" entry, I wrote that I wanted to increase the number of supporters for the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, and my final concern is whether I was able to achieve that. After retiring as "Okashira," I will continue to contribute in my small way as a member of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care for just over another year.

I would like to close my diary by sincerely asking for your continued support for the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care. Thank you very much.
