The commemorative ceremony on April 4 was a very moving experience. I felt I was witnessing firsthand what it truly means to come of age after 20 years.
I believe it was an occasion where those who have nurtured SFC and those who have grown up here gathered together. It was a place to feel the weight of the time we have shared, and to reaffirm our commitment and encourage one another in facing the future.
The fact that alumni are now in positions to lead the future within the faculty, and that the alumni themselves took the lead in planning the commemorative ceremony—these realities made me truly understand and feel reassured about what it means for 20 years to have passed.
The Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care has entered its 10th year. Immediately after graduation, many alumni focus on gaining practical skills in various real-world settings, so we are just now beginning to see some of them return to graduate school. I imagine many of our graduates are still exploring where and how to best develop their abilities.
While attending the ceremony, I found myself imagining what the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care will be like when it reaches its 20th anniversary. I am certain that by then, individuals will have emerged who are at the core of the faculty, who possess both skill and a voice in the world of nursing and medical care, who take on various challenges, and who, as representatives of the younger generation, strive to influence their era.
By that time, will the 30-year-old Faculty of Policy Management and Faculty of Environment and Information Studies have developed a mature character, or will they still be overflowing with the same unchanging, youthful energy? The presence of the 20-year-old Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care will undoubtedly be even stronger than it is today, and I believe they will all be competing and inspiring one another on a global stage.
As I reflected on my desire for the faculty to become a home for its alumni and my hope that they will grow quickly so we can entrust the next generation to them, I was immersed in the emotions of the 20th anniversary celebration.
