Shota Yamanaka

Faculty of Policy Management, Graduated 2012

JGC Corporation

I am currently seconded from JGC Corporation to a Japan-France joint venture called South Tambey LNG, where I work in a finance role related to the development of a plant that produces liquefied natural gas (LNG).

At SFC, I researched changes in the political systems of various countries. I had always wanted to work abroad in the future, and my experience in Professor Yoko Hirose's research group, which specializes in international politics and post-Soviet area studies, has led to my current job.

In the office, I work with Russian and French staff who have vastly different values, communicating in English, which is not our native language. My experience at SFC, where there were many international and returnee students and we would sometimes discuss things all night in research groups and group work, nurtured a "problem-finding and problem-solving" way of thinking—considering what the problem is and deriving a solution—and I feel that this has become the foundation of who I am today.

Post-Graduation Career

April 2012: Joined JGC Corporation, assigned to the Europe & CIS Sales Department

September 2014: Seconded to South Tambey LNG. Deputy Finance Manager, stationed in Moscow.
