Initiatives in the Keio Shonan Fujisawa Senior High School Environment Project

An Approach to the 'Environment' that High School Students Think About and Act On

Going Beyond the Role of a Single Consumer to Think and Act Together with Producers and Companies Aiming for 'Sustainability'

Within the Environment Project, there is a corporate collaboration team whose members, interested in activities with companies, engage in repeated discussions and activities with companies aiming to contribute to a 'sustainable society,' including Starbucks and Unilever.

Like with Unilever, we hold regular discussions with Starbucks to talk about our plans for activities. We are also working with Akiba Farm, a local farm in Fujisawa City. We mainly participate in farming experiences, not only working in the actual fields but also being present at the point of sale. We also conduct three-way collaborative activities with both Starbucks and Akiba Farm. We are engaged in an activity where we ferment the large amount of coffee grounds produced at Starbucks stores and use them as fertilizer in the fields of Akiba Farm. We also held an event to harvest crops at Akiba Farm together with people from Starbucks.

Helping Elementary School Students Learn About the Various Environmental Considerations and Innovations in Our Lives

We conduct 'outreach classes on the environment' for Keio Yochisha Elementary School and Keio's elementary schools, as well as for the elementary schools that members of the Environment Project attended.

Valuing 'En' (Connections) Regardless of Age or Nationality to Build True 'Tsunagari' (Bonds)

In all our activities, including discussions and events, we value our connections with everyone involved, from elementary school students to people from other countries, and actively engage in exchange.

Through our activities, we have been able to interact with a wide variety of people. All of these are 'connections' (en), and we have also experienced how one 'connection' can lead to new ones. Our activities this year, with a conscious effort to cherish these 'connections,' have grown in variety and scale compared to last year. By valuing each and every 'connection,' we can carry out more activities, further achieving our goal of contributing to the 'environment.' We are also conscious of approaching our activities in a way that can create a virtuous cycle for the future of society, where by increasing activities that involve many people around us, the community contributing to the 'environment' gradually grows. We will continue our activities while cherishing the 'connections' with the many people we were able to engage with this year, including local farmers and artists, high school students from other ASEAN countries we interacted with through the international exchange program 'TYCA,' elementary school students we learned with in our outreach classes, and the alumni we met at the Environment Project OB/OG association.
