Understanding the Region Through its Landscape

Rediscovering and Evaluating the Region as a Place to Walk and Rest

We worked on designs to encourage people to walk, aiming for the sustainability of the campus and its surrounding areas.

Bench Design and Production

After surveying the area around SFC, we found that there were few places and facilities for pedestrians to rest on campus and in the surrounding region. Therefore, from an inclusive design perspective, we designed and produced attractive benches that are easy for the elderly and children to sit on. We then conducted a social experiment by installing them on campus, at Keiiku Hospital, and in front of Shonandai Station.

Proposal of Walking Routes

We surveyed the route between Shonandai Station and SFC and proposed pleasant, easy-to-walk routes that can also be used for commuting to school. We also created maps and topographic models.

Exhibition Design

This fiscal year, we also designed an exhibition space to introduce the initiatives of each laboratory participating in the Sustainable Campus Program. The maps of walking routes and benches produced by the Ishikawa Hajime Laboratory were exhibited along with these at the SFC EXPO.
