Reseach overview

I specialize in macroeconomics and labor economics, and study universities and education systems as central institutions in the macroeconomy. Universities are not only places where individuals acquire skills; they also produce and transmit knowledge, shape who studies and works where, and thereby influence economic growth, inequality, and intergenerational mobility. My research uses quantitative macroeconomic models with heterogeneous agents to analyze these issues. In practice, this means building economic models that incorporate differences across households and universities—such as income, ability, educational opportunities, and institutional resources—and using data to evaluate the quantitative effects of policy. Through this approach, I study how tuition, financial aid, subsidies, and university research activities affect educational attainment, labor market outcomes, and the broader economy.
