Clinical Decision-Support (CDS) systems are architected to resolve knowledge-intensive tasks for supporting decision-making processes in the medical fields and the healthcare industry. Furthermore, CDS systems are expected to promote and contribute to the drug discovery process in pharmaceutical companies, while the CDS system can be connected and collaborated with electronic health record (EHR). However, current solutions for CDS are not well-established across different organizations and institutions in information societies because of high implementation costs and various, complex decision-making problems by medical staffs. In this paper, we suggest that the reference architecture and framework for the CDS system with EHR will be proposed and verified by the case in a hospital. In addition, the challenge and future activities for this area are expressed.

Although the Graded Index Plastic Optical Fiber (GI POF) is thought to be the most suitable for high speed optical home network media, there are still difficulties in workability of on-site tools and methods, especially in fiber cutting compared with Step Index POF. In this paper we propose a new cutting method with appropriate blade shape and surface coating. By using the new method, an on-site worker can cut and connect GI POF possibly without polishing of the fiber end.

This paper will describe features of our newly developed PCP GI POF (partially chlorinated polymer based GI POF) and evaluation results of a high speed transmission system using the PCP GI POF and the ultimate easy connection module (OptoLock®) with a novel long-life red VCSLE. Evaluation results of coupling loss of the PCP GI POF cut by a newly developed cutter for OptoLock® and radio frequency over POF system with PFP GI POF (per fluorinated polymer based GI POF) will be also indicated.

Successfully developed a thinner, softer, longer cable system using a graded-index plastic optical fiber (GI-POF) to replace a coaxial cable connected between a TV set and GV-ONU (optical network unit for television broadcasts in an FTTH service) is described. This system consists of E/O converter, GI-POF and O/E converter, and has high frequency response up to 2.1GHz, that covers terrestrial digital broadcast, satellite broadcast, and communication satellite broadcast in Japan. © 2012 ICPOF.

Various metal cables are used in a house: such as Unshielded Twist Pair (UTP) cable for Gigabits Ethernet (GE), High Definition Media Interface (HDMI) for high definition (HD) video contents, and coaxial cable for TV broadcast. To reduce its complexity for consumers, we successfully developed wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission system over Graded-Index Plastic Optical Fiber (GI-POF) pair cable to replace these complex metal cables. This system consists of newly developed E/O-O/E converters for each media signal and multi-wavelength Multiplexer (MUX) and De-Multiplexer (DEMUX). Almost all GI-POF wiring for a local area network in home, campus, hospital, and factory can be achieved. Such WDM-GI-POF wiring in the premises can make simple, smart and safe multimedia network services without increasing the number of cables.

A real full HD 3D video communication system using graded-index plastic optical fiber (GI-POF) network is proposed. Instead of using regular side-by-side stereoscopic technology, it uses synchronized dual channel streaming which enables us to provide full HD quality for both right and left eye images. Using Sony's newly developed communication box for the 3D dual streaming, we modified it by adding an optical interface for IP data transmission through GI-POF.

Various kinds of high presence displays are developed and used in recent years. However, it is difficult to quantitatively evaluate the "presence". In this study, we tried to define the word of presence operationally by measuring the biological information of the users. In the experiment, the conditions of 2D/3D images, viewing angles, and resolutions of the displayed images were changed. And the electrocardiogram, facial skin thermogram, and eye movement of the users were measured when they were looking at the displayed images. From the result, it was shown that the RRV value decreases, the nose skin temperature did not decrease, and the frequency of eye movement increased, when the user were looking at the high presence image. This situation means the state where the user is concentrating his mind, feeling relax, and being interest in the displayed image. From the results, we proposed the index value of the word of presence by using the RRV value, the nose skin temperature, and the frequency of high presence sensation. © 2013 IEEE.

Although the Graded Index Plastic Optical Fiber is thought to be the most suitable for high speed optical home network, there are still difficulties in workability of on-site construction, especially in fiber cutting. We investigated how the cutting method influences the surface condition. And, we got the prospect of new cut method that could achieve the cut surface shape that could realize a low connection loss without polishing.

Ultra High Definition TV (UHDTV) which is a next-generation video format has been developed in each country. In Japan, test broadcasting of 8Kx4K Ultra High Definition TV (8 K-UHDTV) with 16 times resolution of High Definition TV (HDTV) will be started in 2016. However, there is still no interface which transmits uncompressed 8K-UHDTV between electrical household appliances and electrical equipment. This paper proposes an interface for the transmission apparatus for the household appliances to transmit 120 Gbps 8 K-UHDTV video using GI-POF. © 2013 The Japan Society of Applied Physics.

In order to obtain a more realistic image, the display industry has been expanding substantial improvement on video format. In Japan, 8K Ultra High Definition TV (8K-UHDTV) satellite broadcasting is planned to start towards the Olympic Games in 2020. This paper proposes a novel optical interface for home electronics having capability to transmit 8K-UHDTV. The interface uses our high speed Graded-Index Plastic Optical Fiber (GI-POF) and ballpoint pen lens. Its connector and cable are small, lightweight, flexible and low cost.

Higher quality video than HDTV has being developed these days, but it requires ultra high speed communication speed (more than 10Gbps). We proposed a new video transmission system having novel balllens connectors, which enables to transmit up to 40Gbps video data (for instance 4K3D) interactively at the real time. By applying the system in a future house or office, a residence or a worker in the building can interactively communicate each other in real time using very high quality video. © 2012 ICPOF.

© 2014 ICPOF. It has become possible enough to take telemedicine by progression of the ICT. Especially, GI-POF and 4K technology has been spread as medical solution. It is because such technology is required in order to reproduce the presence near the actual world. Telesurgery has attracted attention as a potential solution to expand telemedicine, but it has not been established as a common form of medical care. This study aim to investigate research question that whether training for visual delay can control about an obstruction by the visual delay effect on perceptual motor coordination with minute pointing. As a result, data of experiment showed tendency that high delay training method in blocked order more effective than low delay training in same order.
