This system is an interface realized with the symbiosis of the input/output of wind and graphics. This system brings the new communication medium of "wind" into the bidirectional interaction between the virtual environment and the real environment by integrating the graphic presentation with the input and output of wind on a special screen. The user can interact with the virtual environment in the screen through his/her breath and wind emission. Conversely, actions from the virtual environment to the user are performed by wind changing dynamically. As a result, the user can share not only sights and sounds but also the cutaneous sensation by wind with the system, and interact with the virtual environment feeling a non-conventional deep relationship.

Most of the existing interactive art or entertainment systems consist of the following three steps: (1) the system's prompting the action of the participant, (2) action of the participant, and (3) response of the system. They do not presuppose these successive processes are performed continuously and repeatedly, and they are designed to express the concept of the work in each interaction. The opposite approach is to transmit the concept of the work in a continuous and repeated experience. The authors propose ”Adjustive Media” as a type of work based on this approach. Adjustive Media has a spiral model with feedback. When participants experience the work repeatedly, they can recognize the difference of results between each interaction, and they can understand more closely the intent of the designer. This paper will propose 3 design processes for Adjustive Media as design method, and will introduce the prototypes of Adjustive Media.

回転角度を取得するセンサに用いられる絶対角度取得手法を,空間座標をリアルタイムに取得することに応用したシステムを提案する.回転角度を取得するロータリエンコーダと同様の機構を用いることから,本システムを投影型空間エンコーダと呼称する.本システムは座標情報をもったパターンを投影する空間構造化光の送信部と,投影された空間座標情報を取得する受信部から構成される.受信部では送信部の光軸方向からの角度情報を取得できる.単体では角度情報だけであるが複数システムを組み合わせることにより三次元空間位置情報を構成することが可能である.座標情報をもつ投影パターンとしてはシングルトラックグレイコードを用いることにより,レンズ光学系を必要としない送信部を構成できることが特徴である.本論文では,手法の提案を行うとともに試験的な実装を行い評価を行っている.

This paper reports Deviceart Archive, which the authors has been developing, and qualitative analysis using interview videos with some Deviceart artists and researchers. Deviceart Archive records and presents interview videos in which the artists talked about the concept of their artworks for the exhibition "Deviceart Garelly" at The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan), and the videos recorded at Deviceart symposiums. This style is similar to citation system of online academic journal repositories.

In this paper, we describe the information transmission system that uses the contact between users and ball devices as an information channel in interactive contents. When the ball device with built-in transmitter comes in contact with the user who wear the receiver, this system transmits information with the human body communication through user's body. We aim at the improvement of the augmentation of the interaction in such a way that presenting information on user's body according to the contact between each ball device and each user by this method. This system also enables use in a wide range field in the same network by managing contact information of both collectively. We realize the application development mixed the contents environment of the real world with the virtual space by regarding ball devices as input interface. Moreover, we developed a interactive game content intended for children with this system, and conduct a user study.

In this article, we report novel measurement method designed by a couple of plane light sources made by IR-LED array and a photo interrupter. Light sources emit light by the same frequency and the different phase. And optical axis of the sources is set up as orthogonal. Then, the signal place is diffused with the space where phase is different in each position. And the signal which is received by photo interrupter is analyzed, the position is analyzed from the signal which is received by photo interrupter.

This paper is about optical camouflage 2.0, a mirror bringing the experience that one's own figure is transparent. When the user wears a retro-reflective material coat and stands in front of the mirror, the part of the coat is transparent. This design realized the experience that was imagination to appear in the SF conventionally in the reality world. This is the revised design of Optical Camouflage by RPT to be self-transparent. The system utilizes with Retro-reflective material, projector and beam splitter as same as previous works, but the position of observer is placed the same position of masking object. Additionally, this article describes about the optics design of the system, and also the result of exhibition which called "The Interfaces of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" at National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.

This paper describes an attitude control method of fur surface for an interface covered with fur material. Chimpanzees and cats are known as animal which assumes a threat posture as one of their communication ways. When they adopt a threading posture, they raise their hair. As this phenomenon is also perceptible to human, it can be useful element for human user interface. Therefore, we set our goal to achieve a control method of fur surface and apply the method to interfaces with fur. With this method, we achieved rapidly changing of hair attitude. Also, through user study, we confirmed that the method is feasible approach for vision perception.

This paper proposes a method to control robots using an imaging display. In this method, a multi-robot controlling system can be constructed with a simple method. Graphic displays are no longer screens just for human, but are also for robots. It is able to consider display as a device that provide visual information to human and robots simultaneously. Additional to that, people who don't have any programming skills can manipulate robots by editing images using an animation software. We think this method enhances and enriches interaction around table-top displays. Tangible devices that can be manipulated by humans can also be controlled by this system.

This paper reports the detection threshold of human hairy skin with the use of a direct vibrotactile stimulus to the hair on human hairy skin. We designed an experimental method to quantify the psychological effect and developed a stimulation instrument to directly stimulate the hair. This vibrotactile stimulation was provided from the tip of tweezers which traveled horizontally or vertically against the human skin. The stimulation point was the approximate middle region of the hair on the middle finger and forearm. A psychological experiment was conducted based on the hypothesis that a frequency characteristic exists on hairy skin with direct stimulus to the hair. As a result, a significant difference depends on frequency was obtained with ANOVA. It was described that the vibrotactile stimulus was conducted to Pacinian by the body hair on the middle finger which has so small section area. This is conflicting finding concerning the size of the contactor which can conduct the stimulus into the lower layer of skin. However, this threshold curve and also the introspection reports of participants support this novel finding.
