Reseach overview
During the development of the cerebral neocortex, excitatory neurons are generated near the ventricular zone and migrate radially while undergoing morphological changes until they reach their final functional locations. It is known that disruptions in neuronal migration not only cause congenital disorders associated with structural abnormalities in the cerebral cortex, such as lissencephaly, but also increase the risk of developing neuropsychiatric disorders after birth. By elucidating the mechanisms of neuronal migration, we aim to establish a foundation for understanding the pathogenesis of these disorders and for developing preventive and therapeutic strategies.
