昆虫類はこれまでに90万種以上が報告されており，種数の点では生物多様性の約半分を占めます。外見的にそっくりなものも多い昆虫類を，専門家は「交尾器」を観察することで識別します。交尾器の進化は速く，形の多様性が顕著に表われるからです。なぜ交尾器の進化は速いのか？どのように進化していくのか？実証と理論の両面から探っています。
