金星の気候形成に関わる物質輸送と、それを支配する地表から均質圏界面に至る子午面循環の構造は依然として理解されていない。本研究では、新たな観測情報を活用し、放射・物質輸送や対流過程の改良を含む数値モデルの高度化を進め、これらをもとに金星大気のデータ同化に新たな手法を導入して新規研究を大規模展開する。このことにより、波動や対流といった大気擾乱が子午面循環を駆動する力学過程を精査し、地表から均質圏界面までの子午面循環の構造を明らかにする。硫酸雲を支配する化学物質輸送や、水の消失に関わる均質圏界面に至る上方輸送、そしてそれらがもたらすであろう金星気候の長期変動を紐解くことを目指す。

金星の全球的な高速東西風 (スーパーローテーション) は，発見から半世紀を経た現在もその維持メカニズムが解明されていない惑星気象学最大の謎のひとつである。金星スーパーローテーションの維持メカニズム解明の鍵は子午面循環と大気波動であるが，その3次元構造の直接観測は極めて困難である。本研究では，金星大気中の硫酸雲とその材料物質 (微量成分) の3次元的な同時分布の観測を実現し，それを再現する雲化学GCM (大気大循環モデル) を開発することにより，子午面循環・大気波動の3次元構造を明らかにし，スーパーローテーションの維持メカニズムを解明する。 ■金星大気大循環モデル (GCM) で得られた短周期擾乱について解析を進め，5.8日波が赤道ジェットを作り，それを7日波が解消することによって，下部雲層の東西平均流に周期280日程度の準周期的な変動が作られることを明らかにした。この結果はあかつきの観測 (Horinouchi et al., 2017) をよく説明する。7日波は赤道ジェットのシア不安定によって励起され，赤道反対称な構造を持つことなども明らかにした。 ■大気微量成分として H2O, H2SO4, CO, SO3 に着目し，大気化学モデルの作成に着手した。また，長波放射モデルを精査したところ，大気による赤外線の吸収が過小であることが確認された。その原因を特定するために，吸収線の評価の再確認と吸収線データベースの見直しを行った。 ■大気微量成分 (CO, SO2, OCSなど) の時空間分布を把握するため，ハワイ・マウナケア山頂に設置された赤外線望遠鏡IRTFを用いた金星大気の集中的な観測を実施した。波長2ミクロン帯から4ミクロン帯にかけての広い波長域で高分散分光スペクトルを取得することにより，COおよびOCSといった，大気化学的に密に関連し合う複数の分子種を同時に観測することに成功した。また，2月には中間赤外線高分散分光器TEXESを用いて，雲層上部におけるSO2およびHDOの複数日間の時間変動を観測した。 ■あかつき搭載の中間赤外線カメラ (LIR) の観測データに見られた長期的な温度上昇ドリフトを検討し，その原因がカメラ感度の劣化であることを特定した。キャリブレーション手法を確立し，温度ドリフトが解消されることを確認した。改善されたLIRデータを用いて一日潮成分に600-800日程度の明確な振幅変動が存在することを初めて示し，平均温度やアルベド変化，東西風との関連性を調べた。 ■惑星規模波動の研究を進め，あかつき観測によって示唆された雲層中の平均東西風 (スーパーローテーション) の変動が，平均東西風のシア不安定で励起される5.8日波と7日波によって作られることを明らかにした。これはスーパーローテーションの維持メカニズムを解明する上で重要な成果である。 ■大気化学モデルおよび雲物理モデルの開発・改良は概ね予定通りに進捗している。力学GCMの改良では，大気化学モデルおよび雲物理モデルと統合した際にもっとも問題になる温度バイアスを改善するために，定圧比熱の温度依存性をGCMに導入するための作業を行っている。定圧比熱のモデル化は概ね完了し，試験的な数値シミュレーションによってパフォーマンスを確認している。 ■地上観測ではハワイ・マウナケア山頂に設置された赤外線望遠鏡IRTFおよび中間赤外線高分散分光器TEXESを用いた大気微量成分の時空間分布に関する観測に成功し，期待以上の観測データが得られた。現在，解析作業も順調に進捗している。また，金星探査機あかつきのデータ解析において問題になっていたLIRの温度上昇ドリフトの原因が特定され，バイアスの除去に成功した。これにより，熱潮汐波および短周期擾乱の長周期変動が正確に解析可能になり，熱潮汐波 (一日潮) に明確な長周期変動が存在することが初めて示された。これらの知見は，金星大気スーパーローテーションの維持メカニズムの解明の手がかりになることが期待される。 ■惑星規模波動の解析を進め，波の運動量と熱の輸送が金星大気大循環に与える影響を明らかにする。 ■大気化学モデルの開発と雲物理GCMへの導入を進め，試験的な数値シミュレーションを実施することにより，モデルパラメータの最適化を行う。硫酸濃度をモデル中で決定するための改良を継続する。 ■長波放射モデルの計算手法の問題点を特定し，モデルを修正する。期待した結果が得られたら短波放射モデルの精度の確認も行う。それらの修正・確認作業が完了したら，雲物理GCMへの統合作業を実施する。 ■モデルで得られている温度や風速に見られる変動周期特性の関連性を調査し，大気全体の変動特性を明らかにする。モデルによる再現や比較に資する形にこれまでの観測データを統合する。長期変動の原因を明らかにするとともに，金星大気中での運動量や熱の輸送の実態を明らかにする。 ■地上望遠鏡によって取得した観測データの解析を進める。その際，金星大気微量成分の吸収線スペクトルを正しく計算できるような金星大気放射伝達モデルを整備する。また，これまでの観測で得られた知見を整理し，大気大循環モデルの化学種として取り込めるような気候値を作成する。改善されたLIRデータを用いて熱潮汐波や短周期擾乱を再解析し，GCMの結果とも比較しながら，長周期変動の原因を明らかにする。

Atmospheric gravity waves transport and redistribute momentum and energy, and play an important role in planetary atmospheres. The objective of this research is to comprehensively clarify various processes of gravity waves in the Venus atmosphere using a hierarchical numerical model. As a result, not only the momentum transport by the excitation, propagation and dissipation of thermal tides, which are planetary scale gravity waves, but also the excitation mechanism and role of equatorial Kelvin waves, which are short period gravity waves, in cloud variation. Furthermore, it is elucidated for the first time in the world that small-scale gravity waves are spontaneously generated from thermal tides and redistribute momentum in the super rotation.

We carried out analyses of data from AKATSUKI, the Japanese Venus explorer, and the development of and experiments with a general circulation model of the Venus atmosphere, in a complementary manner, to clarify the planetary-scale disturbances and the maintenance mechanism of the cloud layer. Using AKATSUKI imagery, we generated a cloud-tracking wind vector field and succeeded in identifying the angular momentum transport that maintains atmospheric super-rotation. Using the cloud-tracking vector fields, we also realised the world's first data assimilation experiment focusing on the behaviour of thermal tides. The obtained data were used to improve our understanding of the meridional circulation and the planetary-scale disturbances, and the associated angular momentum transport related to the superrotation of the atmosphere. The assimilated data were released to the world as the first objective analysis of the Venusian atmosphere.

Radio occultation observations between multiple small satellites on Venus are expected to be a candidate for the Venus satellite mission following the Venus Orbiter ‘Akatsuki’. This is the first attempt on a planet other than Earth. In this study, we conducted ‘Observation System Simulation Experiments (OSSE)’ using the Venus data assimilation system developed for the first time in the world. We conducted OSSE with various observation ranges and observation frequencies obtained from orbit calculations, and investigated the effectiveness of the intersatellite radio occultation observations on Venus.

金星は高度50～70kmにある硫酸の厚い雲に覆われ、内部の大気運動の観測が困難である。本研究では、世界初の金星大気データ同化システムを用いて観測システムシミュレーション実験を行い、欧州と日本の将来の金星探査計画の有効性を評価し、その最適化を試みる。金星探査機「あかつき」で得られた観測成果、金星大気大循環モデル、金星大気データ同化システムのそれぞれを最大限に活用することで、金星の大気運動の力学的理解を深めるための観測計画を提案する。

GCM (大気大循環モデル)・雲微物理モデル・大気光化学モデル・MHD (磁気流体力学)モデルの結合計算を行い、また金星周回探査機が観測した雲層大気場データの同化計算も実行することで、金星の気候進化史や大気組成変動に影響を与える様々な要素を考慮した理論検証を世界に先駆けて行う。また生命材料分子の前駆物質が過去や現在の金星環境下で生成・濃集されうるかどうかを検証し、金星における生命存在可能性に迫る。

As a simple material transport model whose products can be compared with observations, we developed a new cloud model for our Venus GCM (AFES-Venus) and conducted several numerical simulations in order to investigate how the cloud is formed and affected by the atmospheric general circulation and planetary waves. The results show that the reproduced cloud distributions, which are in good agreement with ground-based and Venus orbiter observations, are strongly affected by the vertical transport of H2O gas from the lower atmosphere induced by active disturbances in high-latitudes. The zonal wavenumber-1 structure found in the equatorial region at the lower cloud levels are formed by temperature anomaly associated with the Kelvin-like wave with zonal wavenumber-1. Contrary to conventional expectations, the vertical wind has minor effect on the zonal wavenumber-1 structure.

We performed observational and numerical studies on the Venus atmospheric dynamics, and succeeded in finding topographic waves and thermal tides. We reproduced these waves in a general circulation model to elucidate their temporal and spatial structures and their effects on the general circulation and material transports in the Venus atmosphere. We found that streak features observed by an infrared camera onboard Akatsuki were generated by a front associated with baroclinic instability waves. We also obtained some results on the thermally stratified structures and the generation mechanism of the atmospheric superrotation.

世界初の本格金星気象撮像探査機「あかつき」の軌道投入以前、金星大気の観測は断片的であり、数値モデルには仮定が多く、スーパーローテーション（四日循環）の存在に象徴される金星大気の循環構造はほとんど未知であった。本研究では、我々が開発を進めてきた地球シミュレータ上の金星大気大循環モデル（AFES-Venus）を元に金星大気データ同化システム(ALEDAS-V)を構成し、「あかつき」観測と矛盾せず力学的に辻褄のあった金星大気循環場の生成を試みる。これによって、金星大気中の未知な擾乱を同定し、その分布と角運動量輸送などを明らかにしスーパーローテーションにいたる金星大気大循環の構造を解明する。
