Today, amid growing social interest in health and well-being, the importance of public health is being rediscovered. Public health was once primarily viewed as a field of social security centered on infectious disease control. However, with changes in disease structures, it has evolved into a comprehensive health science that includes non-communicable diseases such as lifestyle-related diseases and mental health, as well as the socio-economic and environmental factors and nutritional approaches behind them. As a result, the use of public health knowledge is expanding in academic research, business, and policy.

This symposium will focus on two particularly noteworthy contemporary themes in public health: the impact of information on the mind and body, and planetary health.

In recent years, concerns have been growing about the impact of digital technology use on health, and some countries and regions are moving to restrict or prohibit social media use by young people. For IT companies, including platform operators, addressing users' health risks is emerging as a new management challenge. This symposium will discuss the current status of and measures for this issue, incorporating the perspective of informational health.

Furthermore, as concerns about environmental issues intensify, planetary health is gaining attention. Planetary health is a concept that focuses on the inseparable relationship between the global environment and human health. It demonstrates potential for application in diverse fields as an integrated approach to the two major challenges facing modern society: sustainability and healthcare/well-being. This symposium will discuss the concept of planetary health, as well as the initiatives and significance of various sectors, including the business sector.

By discussing these themes with experts from various backgrounds, we hope this will be an opportunity to explore the possibilities of public health in a wide range of fields, such as academic research, business, and policymaking, and to deepen our considerations.
