Approximately 100 ukiyo-e works, centered on Kitagawa Utamaro and Toshusai Sharaku produced by Tsutaya Juzaburo, will be exhibited all at once!

We will hold an exhibition introducing the "Sei'ichiro Takahashi Ukiyo-e Collection," collected by Sei'ichiro Takahashi, an economist who once served as the (Acting) President of Keio University.

This exhibition, the second held as part of the project to publicize and disseminate the Takahashi Collection, focuses on two ukiyo-e artists representing the late Edo period: Kitagawa Utamaro and Toshusai Sharaku. Featuring the ukiyo-e of Utamaro, a master of bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women), and Sharaku, who became famous for yakusha-e (actor prints), the exhibition also introduces materials related to their publisher, Tsutaya Juzaburo, as well as works by other artists active during the same period.

In addition, extremely rare ukiyo-e prints by Sharaku have been borrowed for this exhibition, creating a space where they can be viewed closely alongside the Takahashi Collection. Please enjoy the competition between bijin-ga and yakusha-e.
