New AI systems based on large-scale parallel processing and the processing of vast amounts of accumulated data are expected to generate dramatic efficiency improvements in all social functions currently evolving on the premise of DX. Because AI can make nearly accurate suggestions based on recorded human experience and knowledge, it has begun to contribute significantly to fields that have traditionally required expertise and complex procedures, such as software development and digital creative activities.

The fields of medicine and health are where such contributions from AI are most highly anticipated, and specific case studies are beginning to be reported.

AI is expected to significantly transform not only medical research but also the methods of healthcare delivery and health management systems. This includes improving the efficiency and accuracy of medical systems, accelerating diagnosis, ensuring the secure sharing and use of medical and health data, and facilitating individual preventive medicine and the efficient use of Personal Health Records (PHRs). On the other hand, various social and ethical issues have emerged regarding the introduction of AI, such as secure data sharing, privacy, intellectual property, data bias, fairness, and accuracy.

To lead the way in solving these challenges, it is necessary not only to promote the use of AI within individual specialized fields as in the past, but also to take a comprehensive view of technologies—including the internet, data centers, cloud infrastructure, data distribution, and AI algorithms themselves—and effectively promote AI-driven medical DX where various technologies can collaborate.

The Keio University Cyber Civilization Research Center has held three seminars to date, sharing cutting-edge insights with experts on topics ranging from robotics, AI, and big data utilization supporting medical and health DX to next-generation business models, and discussing the path toward the future of medicine.

In the fourth seminar, medical professionals and AI engineers will share knowledge across academic and industrial frameworks to form a comprehensive perspective, seeking a vision for solving medical and health challenges for society as a whole.
