An exhibition delving into the incredibly unique collection of the founder of Kohitsugaku (the study of ancient calligraphy), who devoted extraordinary passion to exploring the culture of "writing."

The Century Akao Collection, donated to Keio University in 2021, includes approximately 15,000 volumes from the former collection of Kohitsugaku scholar Shigemi Komatsu (1925–2010). The most significant feature of this collection is its unparalleled breadth of Japanese classical books related to the act of "writing characters."

Currently, the Keio University Institute of Oriental Classics (Shido Bunko) is conducting a re-examination and cataloging of this vast collection. This exhibition introduces a portion of Shigemi Komatsu's incredibly unique collection alongside the surprising process of researching these classical books. Rare items, common items, items once owned by famous figures, items without titles, and mysterious items that are hard to identify... let's step into this diverse forest of books.
