The Keio Research Institute at SFC xSDG Laboratory and United Nations University will co-host a symposium titled "Towards the SDGs and Beyond: How Can a Global Digital Society Accelerate Transformations?" on January 9, 2025. We look forward to your participation.

In this symposium, as digital technology and AI dramatically transform our world today, we will discuss a wide range of topics, including the new possibilities brought by the development of digital technology and AI, as well as the governance and partnerships needed to achieve sustainable development through the attainment of the SDGs.

At the UN Summit of the Future held in September 2024, the "Global Digital Compact" was adopted as an outcome alongside the "Pact for the Future." The Global Digital Compact is the first comprehensive agreement on digital cooperation and artificial intelligence (AI) governance.

The Global Digital Compact aims to build "an inclusive, open, sustainable, fair, safe and secure digital future for all." To achieve this, it outlines five objectives, 13 principles, and specific commitments and actions for each objective. The first objective is to "close all digital divides and accelerate progress across the SDGs." The agreement is centered on strategies for utilizing digital technology to achieve the SDGs, such as linking each commitment and action to relevant SDG targets.

This symposium will delve into how the Global Digital Compact and the use of digital technology can accelerate transformations toward a sustainable future.

This lecture will be held in English and Japanese, and simultaneous English-Japanese interpretation will be available.
