"Soichiro Mihara: Recipes for the Art of Air" will be held from Monday, June 3 to Saturday, August 3, 2024.

Soichiro Mihara reinterprets various phenomena around us into art using his own unique methods, visualizing and sonifying the systems and processes of fluctuation found within them. From the perspectives and methodologies of democratized technologies such as free culture and open-source platforms—the foundations of media art—he explores the nature of open systems and investigates "art as a device."
Mihara, who has developed creative activities focusing on the phenomena and events surrounding us, recently mapped these out and realized that his works and creative interests consist of three categories: "vibration," "respiration," and "particles," which he named "Art of Air." In addition, Mihara practices creating "recipes" for his works. A recipe is an attempt to archive the method itself of imagining the process of fluctuation, which is the core of Mihara's work. In this process, he proceeds experimentally while considering circulation and reducibility in artistic practice, such as describing the details of the mechanism of the artwork as much as possible and permitting reproduction as long as it follows the recipe.
In this exhibition, we will present the new work "Grinding Powder" and provide an overview of Mihara's recent creative activities, allowing visitors to experience "Art of Air," which approaches the cyclical world surrounding us from various angles, while also exhibiting "recipes." By presenting the works and recipes simultaneously, the exhibition sheds light on Mihara's interests and practices regarding the nature of works and descriptions, the attempt to share imagination with others, the artist's intentions regarding the future of the work, and issues such as reproduction and re-exhibition.
