As the global marine environment undergoes significant changes, expectations are rising in Japan—a nation surrounded by the sea—for the utilization of advanced digital technologies in the marine sector, known as "Blue Tech" (short for Blue Technology). Issues such as fluctuations in seawater temperature and resulting changes in fish catches, as well as "isoyake" (the disappearance of seaweed beds often called "forests of the sea"), are becoming increasingly apparent. The marine sector is said to be the furthest behind in digitalization and IoT, making it a true "blue ocean." Consequently, solving problems and creating businesses through the promotion of Blue Tech has become essential. This seminar invites leading experts in research and practice working on Blue Tech to introduce their initiatives and discuss future prospects.
