Keio University is pleased to announce the 50th Shinzo Koizumi Prize National High School Essay Contest. This contest was established in 1976 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing of Dr. Shinzo Koizumi, who served as President of Keio University for over 13 years starting in 1933. The purpose of this contest is to pass on the character and achievements of Dr. Koizumi—an outstanding researcher, educator, and accomplished writer—to future generations and to contribute to the improvement of writing and expressive skills among young people.

In an era where the decline in young people's writing skills is often noted, this contest calls for well-reasoned "essays" of 6,000 to 8,000 characters. Each year, we receive numerous high-quality submissions from all over the country.

We would be grateful if you could help us promote this contest to more high school students, parents, and high school teachers to spread its purpose and encourage a large number of applications again this year.

Additionally, we plan to release a support video on the Keio University website offering writing tips and hints for high school students who wish to take on the challenge of writing an essay.
