A collaborative team, led by the Center for Design of Circulatory Systems and Digital Manufacturing at the Keio University Global Research Institute (KGRI) (Center Director: Hiroya Tanaka, Professor at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies), will permanently exhibit "Sokaku," a circular manufacturing system centered on 3D printers, in the "Factory Area" of the Japan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
3D printing is a manufacturing method that produces less waste and noise, and also consumes less power. Furthermore, two robotic arm 3D printers will move organically, helping each other like "cranes," to indirectly express a connection to the Japan Pavilion's theme, "Between Lives." The venue will also feature 3D-printed algae stools designed by Professor Tanaka and his team, which visitors can actually sit on.
