Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) has been certified as a "Nature Symbiosis Site" by the Ministry of the Environment (for the second half of fiscal 2024). "Nature Symbiosis Sites" are areas certified by the national government that have significant biodiversity value and where conservation efforts are being made through various initiatives by businesses, private organizations and individuals, and local governments. Areas certified as Nature Symbiosis Sites are registered in an international database as "OECMs (*)."

*Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures: An area other than a legally designated protected area, such as a national park, that achieves effective, long-term conservation of biodiversity.

The Shonan Fujisawa Campus Nature Symbiosis Site is located in an area with a rich natural environment and high biodiversity within the urbanizing Shonan Fujisawa region. Leveraging its strengths as an educational and research institution, SFC has actively implemented advanced initiatives, incorporating the latest technologies, to conserve the natural environment and biodiversity of this area and to create a sustainable community and campus. This certification as a "Nature Symbiosis Site" recognizes that these conservation efforts have successfully preserved the region's typical ecosystems and rare species.
