Professor Toshihiro Okubo of the Faculty of Economics, Keio University, in collaboration with NIRA Research Institute, has conducted a series of 10 regular surveys of 10,000 workers since April 2020, the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a successor to these surveys, the "First Survey on the Actual Conditions of Workers in the Digital Economy and Society" has now been conducted. This new survey aims to understand the state of social implementation of digital technology in the post-COVID-19 era and the changes it brings to the work styles, lives, and attitudes of workers.

According to the preliminary results, the telework utilization rate for workers nationwide as of May 2024 was 13% (21% in the Tokyo metropolitan area). Furthermore, while the use of automation technology at work and fintech services in daily life among teleworkers has increased over the years, it cannot be said that a positive attitude has been formed regarding whether ICT and automation technologies assist with work tasks. This once again raises questions about the vision for a post-COVID-19 society and how to increase the acceptance of digital technology throughout society as a whole.
