Professor Toshihiro Okubo of the Faculty of Economics at Keio University has been conducting large-scale surveys on telework and the work, lives, and attitudes of workers in Japan amidst the spread of COVID-19, periodically since April 2020, when the pandemic began to spread. This is the 10th "Survey on Telework Trends," a large-scale nationwide survey of 10,000 workers conducted in collaboration with the Nippon Institute for Research Advancement (NIRA).
According to the preliminary results of the 10th survey, the telework adoption rate among workers nationwide was 13% as of October 2023 (22% in the Tokyo metropolitan area). The telework adoption rate has remained stable even after May 2023, when the legal classification of COVID-19 was changed to Class 5. Furthermore, as of October 2023, 12% of workers regularly use generative AI for their jobs, and 64% of these users reported that generative AI has "improved" their work efficiency.
