The Mita Public Speaking Event began at Keio University in 1874 (the 7th year of the Meiji era) and celebrated its 700th event in July 2015. The 712th Mita Public Speaking Event will be held on Thursday, December 21, featuring a lecture by Akiko Ota, Professor Emeritus at Keio University, titled "The Iwakura Mission in Victorian Times: A Journey of Cultural Contact and 'Knowledge' during the Bakumatsu and Meiji Restoration Period."
