Keio University

The architectural complex at Keio University's Mita Campus has undergone various transformations to reach its present form. Some of the buildings were constructed during the lifetime of Yukichi Fukuzawa, while others are the work of Japan's leading architects from various generations. The preservation of so many of these valuable structures allows one to feel the history of the Juku. When students who use these buildings daily as classrooms or libraries learn that they are Important Cultural Properties or the works of world-renowned architects, they will become more aware of their surroundings—the university and its architecture—and turn their attention to the rich spatial experience they offer. Furthermore, the architectural collection on the Mita Campus can be described as a precious environment where one can witness the flow of Japan's modern architectural history firsthand. Therefore, these buildings are extremely important cultural resources not only for Keio University but also for the local community.

During the "Keio University Mita Campus Architecture Promenade—Special Open Days for Architecture," the "Ex Noguchi Room" and the "Enzetsukan (Public Speaking Hall)," buildings that are normally closed to the public, will be specially opened. Additionally, a map explaining the sculptures and architecture on campus will be distributed. Please feel free to enjoy a stroll around the campus with the map in hand.
