A joint research group from Kagawa University (Assistant Professor Takashi Ono, Department of Materials Science, Faculty of Engineering and Design), Keio University (Project Lecturer Wojciech Roga, Professor Masahiro Takeoka), and the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT; Mikio Fujiwara, Director General; Shigehito Miki, Laboratory Head; Hirotaka Terai, Senior Researcher; Kentaro Wakui, principal investigator) has succeeded in a proof-of-principle experiment of a universal quantum classifier using a silicon photonic integrated circuit. The results of this research were published in *Physical Review Letters*, a leading journal of the American Physical Society, on July 6, 2023 (US Eastern Time).
