We are pleased to announce an exhibition featuring the " Sei'ichiro Takahashi Ukiyo-e Collection ," a collection bequeathed by Sei'ichiro Takahashi, an economist and former acting President of Keio University. This will be the first exhibition of the collection hosted by the university in 14 years.

As part of our efforts to share the collection with the public, this exhibition will focus on two popular artists from the late Edo period who remain familiar to modern audiences, Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Kuniyoshi, selected from the vast collection of ukiyo-e woodblock prints.

In conjunction with this, we have also borrowed previously unexhibited preparatory drawings and sketches by both artists and their schools. By exhibiting these powerful, hand-drawn sketches that convey the artists' dynamic brushwork alongside masterpieces of colorful and highly polished ukiyo-e prints, the exhibition explores the materiality of Edo ukiyo-e.
