Thoroughly elucidated the pathogenic mechanisms of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC), an intractable cancer, through comprehensive genomic analysis.
Gastrointestinal NEC is a rare cancer and is rarely indicated for surgery at the time of diagnosis, making it difficult to obtain research samples. As a result, its genomic abnormalities have remained largely unclarified.
Based on the newly discovered pathogenic mechanisms of gastrointestinal NEC, it is expected to promote drug repositioning of molecularly targeted drugs currently in development and new drug discovery.
