We have successfully isolated and cultured neural stem cells from the naked mole-rat, the longest-living rodent, which is resistant to aging and cancer.
We found that naked mole-rat neural stem cells proliferate more slowly and are more resistant to DNA damage compared to mouse neural stem cells.
It is suggested that these characteristics of the neural stem cells may be a factor in preventing their depletion and dysfunction throughout the long lifespan of the naked mole-rat.
