We have elucidated the characteristic genomic abnormalities of scirrhous gastric cancer, an intractable disease with a poorly understood pathology, through whole-genome analysis of ascitic fluid cells from peritoneal dissemination.
In addition to discovering multiple genomic abnormalities that could serve as therapeutic targets, studies using mouse models confirmed that inhibiting these potential target molecules suppressed cancer cell proliferation or led to the disappearance of peritoneal dissemination.
Moving forward, we will continue to explore clinical development for cancer patients, aiming for implementation in cancer gene panel tests and the development of molecularly targeted drugs.
