OOYOO Corporation (Kyoto, Japan; CEO: Daisuke Yamaguchi) and Professor Tomoaki Okuda of the Department of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University, have collaborated with the Indonesian NGO Kopernik to establish an international cooperation framework to address the shortage of mask materials in the country. Indonesia, which has been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic among Southeast Asian countries, faces not only a limited supply of available masks but also a shortage of materials to produce them locally. In response, OOYOO Corporation and Keio University have jointly developed a filter material that can be sourced and manufactured locally in Indonesia, and have established a local mask production and supply system through Kopernik. Moving forward, they will continue to develop filter materials that balance both particle collection efficiency and breathability, and will work to strengthen the mask supply system in regions with limited material supply, such as Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries.
