The Centre for Finance, Technology and Economics at Keio (FinTEK) (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Center Director: Teruo Nakatsuma) and Institution for a Global Society Inc. (hereinafter IGS) (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Masahiro Fukuhara) are launching the STAR (Secure Transmission And Recording) Project, a joint research initiative to develop a system for managing and utilizing personal information using blockchain. This project is a three-year empirical study with participating companies, themed on "returning students' personal information to their own hands." Its objectives are (1) to ensure the security and transparency of students' personal information provision, (2) to research personal information utilization strategies beneficial to both students and companies, and (3) to improve the matching accuracy between students and companies.
This project is limited to one company per industry and aims to involve more than 20 companies. The initial participating companies are MUFG Bank, Ltd., SOMPO Holdings, Inc., and Sumitomo Life Insurance Company. The project aims to maintain and develop this system even after the three-year research period, and subsequently seek broad corporate participation without the one-company-per-industry limitation.
The Centre for Finance, Technology and Economics at Keio (FinTEK) is an organization dedicated to interdisciplinary research and education on fintech. The center promotes pioneering research utilizing information and communication technology, cryptography, economic theory, and data science. It also aims to empirically analyze the impact of fintech on the economy and society and to make policy recommendations for appropriate institutional design and economic management. Meanwhile, in the education and HR fields, IGS has been supporting the matching of students and companies through research on diverse evaluation metrics and analysis of big data from assessments.
Through empirical experiments conducted by the three parties—The Centre for Finance, Technology and Economics at Keio (FinTEK), IGS, and participating companies—the STAR Project aims for the social implementation of a platform that connects students and companies.
