The Toshihiro Okubo Laboratory at the Faculty of Economics, Keio University, and the Nippon Institute for Research Advancement (NIRA) conducted an online questionnaire survey on the impact of the spread of the novel coronavirus on the work styles, daily lives, attitudes, and business operations of workers nationwide, with a focus on the use of telework.

The survey was conducted from April 1 (Wednesday) to April 7 (Tuesday), with a total of 10,516 respondents. The results showed that the telework utilization rate for workers nationwide was 10% as of March 2020, with particularly high usage in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Furthermore, compared to January before the spread of the infection, over 20% of workers reported a decrease in working hours, income, and well-being, indicating that various negative socioeconomic effects were already apparent as of March.
