The Keio University Institute for Advanced Biosciences (Tsuruoka, Yamagata; Director: Masaru Tomita), the Kanagawa Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (Ebina, Kanagawa; President: Yoshihiro Magari; hereinafter "KISTEC"), a local independent administrative agency, and Morishita Jintan Co., Ltd. (Osaka, Osaka; President: Junichi Komamura) have signed a joint research agreement for the development of culture technology for fastidious intestinal bacteria.

Specially Appointed Associate Professor Shinji Fukuda of the Keio University Institute for Advanced Biosciences, in collaboration with Sub-leader Manabu Nakato of KISTEC's Gut Environment Control Group, has been working to establish stable culture techniques for human intestinal bacteria and to develop new isolation and culture techniques. Additionally, Morishita Jintan Co., Ltd. has established special technologies to add various functions to coatings, including the development of acid-resistant seamless capsules that deliver microorganisms to the intestines without being destroyed by stomach acid, and bio-seamless capsules with a semipermeable membrane coating that enable the culture of microorganisms within the capsule. The company has been engaged in developing products beneficial to human intestinal bacteria. This joint research aims to develop new culture technology for fastidious intestinal bacteria by combining the unique technologies and expertise of the three parties.
