Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Koji Hoshino) and Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Hiratsuka-shi, Kanagawa; President: Yasunori Hori) of the Odakyu Group, together with Keio University (Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Akira Haseyama), will conduct the first phase of a demonstration experiment for automated driving technology at Keio University's Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) in Fujisawa-shi, Kanagawa, from Friday, June 1 to Sunday, June 10, 2018.
This experiment is based on the collaborative agreement signed by the three parties in December 2017 concerning research on cutting-edge technologies and regional revitalization. The goal is to eventually achieve automated driving on the bus route connecting the campus with the nearest station.
Amid the growing demand for new forms of mobility that go beyond existing frameworks, the Odakyu Group aims to realize new mobility services that leverage next-generation technologies, including automated driving technology, to promote advanced urban development along the Odakyu lines. Keio University, with its track record in research and education on advanced mobility, including automated vehicles, will contribute to the development of next-generation communities based on cutting-edge technology by applying its research outcomes to the area surrounding the Shonan Fujisawa Campus.
The Odakyu Group and Keio University will continue to further strengthen their collaboration to solve social issues and aim for the sustainable development of society and the region.
