The Keio University Faculty of Letters, Major in French Literature, will hold the international symposium "Paul ClaudelJapan: Crossed Gazes" at Mita Campus as part of an academic exchange with Sorbonne University. The event is co-hosted by the Geibungakkai (Arts and Letters Society). The purpose of this symposium is to cross "the gaze Claudel directed at Japan" with "the gaze Japan directed at Claudel" regarding his understanding of Japanese culture during his stay in Japan as the French ambassador in the Taisho era. Speakers will include Professor Alexandre (Sorbonne University), an expert in modern French literature invited through the Top Global University Project, as well as director Moriaki Watanabe, who gained attention for the Japanese premiere of Claudel's masterpiece "The Satin Slipper." There will also be a roundtable discussion with a Noh performer, attempting a comprehensive examination from interdisciplinary perspectives. We would appreciate your cooperation in announcing and covering this symposium.
