This year (2017), the Keio University Athletic Association, celebrating its 125th anniversary, will hold the special exhibition "Modern Japan and Keio Sports—Never Forget the Purpose of Physical Education—" at Mita Campus from Tuesday, November 28 to Wednesday, December 13. This exhibition is an attempt to trace historical materials to consider the role and potential that "physical education" in Japan—which began when Yukichi Fukuzawa introduced Western ideas of physical education to Keio University—and the sports that have developed so richly, have played in modern Japan. We hope this will be an opportunity to re-examine the original significance and future potential of student sports, which can often fall into an overemphasis on spirit or a win-at-all-costs mentality. Approximately 150 items, mainly original materials, are scheduled to be exhibited, including handwritten documents by Yukichi Fukuzawa and historical materials related to the Waseda-Keio rivalry in various sports, the Olympics, and international exchange through sports.

In addition, panel discussions and gallery talks will be held as related events. We would appreciate it if you could list this in your event calendars and provide media coverage.
