A research group from the Keio University Institute for Advanced Biosciences (hereinafter Keio IAB, Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture), led by Professor Tomoyoshi Soga and Project Assistant Professor Kiyotoshi Sato, along with Professor Yasuyuki Suzuki of the Department of Gastroenterological Surgery, School of Medicine, Kagawa University, Unit Leader Shinichi Yachida of the National Cancer Center, and Director Masahiro Aoki of the Aichi Cancer Center Research Institute, has elucidated the mechanism of metabolic changes in cancer, a century-old mystery.
This research was supported by the AMED-CREST program of the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (hereinafter AMED), "Creation of Innovative Medical Technology Based on the Analysis of Metabolites and Metabolic Regulation in Diseases" (Research Director: Takao Shimizu), and by support from Yamagata Prefecture and Tsuruoka City. The results of this research were published in the online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America on August 29, 2017.
