Research Ethics

The Keio University Faculty of Pharmacy and Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences have established a Research Ethics Committee for Human Subjects.

This committee reviews pharmaceutical and biomedical research involving humans and human-derived samples conducted by faculty, staff, and students from a scientific and ethical perspective, in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and various ethical guidelines regarding research in medical sciences issued by regulatory authorities.

When faculty and staff belonging to the Keio University Faculty of Pharmacy and Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences begin contracted or joint research, or accept designated donations, they are required to undergo a review of their conflict of interest status by the Faculty of Pharmacy Conflict of Interest Management Committee in accordance with the Keio University Conflict of Interest Management Policy.

The Keio University Faculty of Pharmacy and Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences have established the Genetic Modification Safety Committee and the Safety Committee for Experiments Involving Research Microorganisms.

These committees aim to ensure the safe and appropriate implementation of genetic modification experiments and prevent the release of genetically modified organisms into the environment, based on the Act on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological Diversity through Regulations on the Use of Genetically Modified Organisms, as well as related cabinet orders, ministerial ordinances, and public notices.
