What is the Keio University Human Biology-Microbiome-Quantum Research Center (WPI-Bio2Q)?

It is a world-class research center at Keio University. It aims to uncover unknown areas of the human body and develop new treatments for intractable diseases by utilizing quantum computers and AI to analyze the interaction between human biology and the microbiome. It was the first private university to be selected for the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

At the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dean Arita serves as the Bio-1 Core Leader (Metabolome Team), and the following professors serve as Affiliated PIs: Professor Kenjiro Hanaoka (Laboratory of Biofunctional and Analytical Chemistry), Professor Koji Hase (Laboratory of Biochemistry), Professor Naoya Kumagai (Laboratory of Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry), Professor Masanori Osawa (Division of Physics for Life Functions), and Professor Yoshimasa Saito (Division of Pharmacotherapeutics). In addition, graduate students from the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences are also participating as WPI RAs (Research Assistants).
