2023 Disaster Drill Held at Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus

2023/06/30

The Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus conducts a disaster drill every spring for second-year students of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Students in the Faculty of Pharmacy attend Hiyoshi Campus for their first year and then move to the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus from their second year. The Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus houses numerous pieces of experimental equipment and chemicals, making it crucial for these new second-year students to learn emergency procedures.

This year, the disaster drill was held on Thursday, May 25, with approximately 200 second-year students participating. After the second period class ended (from 12:15 p.m.), staff members explained the drill's outline to students in the lecture hall and distributed the "Keio University Disaster and Emergency Pocket Guide." Following this, a drill was conducted in which students evacuated the school building, assuming a fire had broken out due to an earthquake. They followed in-building announcements and guidance, confirming the evacuation routes as they went.

Concurrently with the student evacuation drill, staff members appointed to the self-defense fire brigade conducted initial firefighting and safety protection drills. In addition, a fire extinguisher training session was held for faculty and staff.

Based on the results of the drill, the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus is re-evaluating its fire prevention plan to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.
