2024 Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus Disaster Drill Held

May 13, 2024

The Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus holds a disaster drill every spring for second-year students of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Students of the Faculty of Pharmacy attend the Hiyoshi Campus in their first year and the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus from their second year onward. Since the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus houses a large amount of experimental equipment and chemicals, it is crucial for second-year students, who have just arrived at this campus, to learn how to respond in an emergency.

This year, the disaster drill was held on Thursday, April 25, with approximately 200 second-year students participating. After the second period class (from 12:15 p.m.), staff explained the drill's outline to the students in the lecture hall and distributed the "Keio University Disaster and Emergency Pocket Guide." Following this, a drill was conducted simulating a fire caused by an earthquake, where students evacuated the building following in-house announcements and guidance, confirming their evacuation routes.

Concurrently with the student evacuation drill, an initial firefighting drill and a safety protection drill were conducted, primarily by staff members appointed to the self-defense fire brigade. Fire extinguisher training was also held for faculty and staff.

Based on the results of the drill, the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus is reviewing its fire protection plan to ensure the safety of its students, faculty, and staff.
